Reticular Activator System (RAS)
Utilizing your, and your client’s, RAS to achieve your business goals.
As humans our most effective tool at reaching our goals is our reticular activator. But what is it? And how do we harness it?
The best definition I have found for understanding our “Reticular Activating System (RAS) is a bundle of nerves at our brainstem that filters out unnecessary information so the important stuff gets through.” At least that is how it is supposed to work.
In reality, our brain decides what is “important” based on our focus. This is where we have the power and opportunity to harness our RAS to meet our goals.
After Nasa landed a rover on the planet Mars for the first time, the candy bar also saw an impressive uptick in sales. The company hadn’t started a new marketing campaign or really changed anything to thrust the Mars bar back into the limelight. People were noticing it, and buying it, because with all the media coverage and talk about NASA’s success their brain’s saw “Mars” as important and noticed it everywhere.
This is the same reason that affirmations and writing down your goals increase your probability of achievement. You are training your Reticular Activator System to focus on those things and what we focus on our brains will seek out in the world.
Think about what you most want to achieve. Focus on that. Think about what you need to get there. Write down the strategies that will help you reach that goal. Do it everyday and your brain’s RAS will point you toward the people and opportunities that will help you get there.
At Sky, not only do we understand the importance of our own RAS for our success but our marketing philosophy takes this concept one step further – to our clients. We encourage our agents to tap into their sphere of influence’s Reticular Activator and we hope you will do the same. That way each time they think of real estate, they think of the most important person they know in the business – You!
