Tap Into Your Most Valuable Business Asset with the “Blue Ocean Strategy”

Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne, the Blue Ocean Strategy is a book describing a marketing concept that “challenges the tenets of competitive strategy and calls for a shift in focus from competing to creating new market space and hence making the competition irrelevant. Coming with proven analytical frameworks for creating and capturing blue oceans, the blue ocean strategic approach makes a paradigm shift in the field of strategy and practice.”*
The “Blue Ocean Strategy” is vital to the DNA of the marketing concept Sky Realty and its agents employ. The first ingredient in creating a sales agent’s “blue ocean” is making an emotional connection through a personal brand. In business consumers work with people they like, know, or share something in common with even if there is a more qualified person available. This is the case for most sales based professions, whether a product or service is being sold. Once a personal brand has been established, the next best step toward a Blue Ocean is using it to market to that person’s sphere of influence, or SOI. This is how we create wealth by exploring avenues other than clients of the competition. For many sales agents the most logical place to create a Blue Ocean is from their SOI.
Individuals and corporations alike spend lots of money for qualified leads, unqualified leads and sometimes just information about people in hopes of creating a marketing campaign to turn them into leads. It’s easy to think that sales agents need complex lead management systems to turn people into leads, but we have learned quite often that is not the case. The sales approach we will cover is not new, it’s just overlooked because of the temptation by sales people to hide behind a technological solution to manage what should be a personal relationship.
A salesperson’s skills should be used when it is time to close a transaction not wasted on the efforts of getting a meeting with a potential client. The reason inbound sales leads are so coveted lies in the idea that these prospects are ready to listen and act. Resulting in an easier close than we typically see with outbound sales.
What if personally branded marketing attracted business from a sales person’s sphere of influence creating individual inbound sales leads? This is not only an outbound sales lead converted inbound, it is a prospect who is already sold on the sales associate they are reaching out to. They are calling the person they made a connection with; NOT the company.
When real estate sales managers learn this simple concept the sales world will be transformed from a painful process of badgering and handling objection to that of guiding trusting people through the products and services an organization offers to clients who are ready to be lead by their trusted professional. This is the paradigm shift that we are looking for! This just may be the “Blue Ocean” you are searching for!

Curtis told me about why he decided to open a brokerage and his philosophy really hit home with me. From the beginning, I felt we shared a lot of the same vision, heart for the business, and idea of what a real estate brokerage should look like. A lot of the programs we have today have come from that vision and heart for what a brokerage should be; in my mind, a brokerage is a system of support and energy. A brokerage should be a place you feel you can thrive, not just a place to hang your license.
Prior to real estate, I was in a variety of other job settings, none of which allowed me to have a voice or allowed me to contribute to the company. At Sky not only do I have a voice but I, like all other agents at Sky, am encouraged to contribute to the ideas and programs we are developing. Without that agent contribution, I don’t think we’d be the agency we are now or have the successful programs that help our business.
I can honestly say had I not joined Sky in 2009 I don’t think I’d have the business I have today. Sky Realty is more than a brokerage to me, it’s a place I can be proud of. I know that I will always have a voice and support for my business as well as systems that work and new programs to come.

Next I went to work for another Real Estate company big in Canada and the United States. Although they did offer training more suited to the computer world they still relied heavily on old, outdated sales techniques. It was then I decided to seek out a Brokerage who was cutting edge with technology.
This is when I was invited to an event put on by Sky Realty. Sky Realty's broker, Curtis Reddehase, shared knowledge designed help agents build and run their own business. I knew this was the brokerage from me and joined Sky Realty over 6 years ago. Since then I have dominated my market by utilizing the tools Sky Realty offers its agents.
